I just received the "card production ordered" email. My PD for EB-2 perm is 04/2007 and 485 was submitted on 07/02/2007 under EB-2 140. My lawyer then turned in EB-1B petition in 08/2007. It was approved in 06/2008. After I got the approval notice of EB-1B, I decided to relink my 485 to EB-1B 140. I sent a mail to request the relink but it was bounced back by TSC with a printed letter stating something nonsense. I called the TSC center several times to find out how to do relink and the status of 485 but again couldn't get any information useful. Finally I had to ask help from my lawyer. He charged me $100 and filed a request. Interestingly enough he filed the request through AILA intead of filing directly to TSC. After two weeks, the lawyer told me he received confirmation that my I-485 has been presented to a supervisor and they are reviewing my request to slide the approved I-140 (EB-1) to the I-485 for faster adjudication. Now my case is approved.
My understanding from my own case is that it is difficult for the applicant to request relink from TSC. You don't know whether TSC will take your request mail (they returned my mail). Even though they took your mail, you still don't have any idea if they will actually do the relink or your case has been already automatically relinked. My lawyer at least brought my case to the attention of a TSC supervisor. Personally I believed it is the reason my case was approved earlier than my expection. $100 rocks!!!
