一、概览
耶鲁大学由最初设立时仅为一所旨在培养神职人员的小小教会学校，由当时的一位校长、一位教师、一名学生、一座校舍，发展到300多年后的今天，校园占地123公顷，运动场所占地40公顷，还另有高尔夫球场和自然保护场地208公顷。
耶鲁大学现有教职工8071人，学生总数11385人，其中本科生5000余人，研究生人数多于本科生人数。目前耶鲁大学的学生中，留学生超出1500名，其中300多人来自中国，人数仅次于加拿大，是耶鲁大学最大的外国留学生团体。
耶鲁大学把本科教育分为12个寄宿学院，每个学员都有400多名学生，他们全住在一起，形成一个小社区，教学资源共享，学生之间充分交流，多方受益，校内85%的课堂人数少于25人。学校中有35种教学语言，发展着与世界多民族的友谊。

二、耶鲁大学－申请录取篇
n 录取成绩标准
申请耶鲁大学的学生，在英语理解方面必须能达到：在讲话速度较快的时候也能理解对方所讲内容，同时要求他们具备理解地道英语习惯用语的能力。在学生自我表达能力方面，要求口语和写作能力要达到能轻松自如进行表达。
作为对英语能力评估的一部分，耶鲁大学要求，每一个非英语母语申请者或在过去四年的学习期间主要授课语言不是英语者，均必须参加托福考试。老托福最低要求分数为600分，机考最低要求分数为250分，新托福最低要求分数为100分。耶鲁大学不接受SAT2英语水平考试。
在录取外国留学生方面，除了要求留学生语言过关外，对于本科生和研究生，耶鲁大学由两套不同录取标准。报考本科的学生，除了成绩突出，还要具备独立果断的品质，富有想象力和创新精神。而对于研究生，唯一的标准就是杰出的学术造诣。

Common application：
WRITING
Short Answer Please briefly elaborate on one of your extracurricular activities or work experiences in the space below or on an attached sheet (150 words or fewer).
Personal Essay Please write an essay (250 words minimum) on a topic of your choice or on one of the options listed below, and attach it to your application before submission. Please indicate your topic by checking the appropriate box. This personal essay helps us become acquainted with you as a person and student, apart from courses, grades, test scores, and other objective data. It will also demonstrate your ability to organize your thoughts and express yourself.

推荐信指导（Letter of Recommendation）
推荐信是每所学校在招收学生时必须的材料文书之一，也是学校招生的重要依据。
推荐信需要多少封？
推荐信的作用是让学校在没有接触过学生的情况下，从多角度了解申请者，对其有更立体的了解，学校一般会要求申请者提供2－4封推荐信，如果没有要求，建议最好提交2－3封推荐信。
谁最适合做推荐人？
推荐信的目的在藉由申请人外的第三者，就申请人的特质、能力和态度做评估，作为学校审核申请者的一种参考。是能从第三者的客观角度评估申请者的文件，所以占有重要的地位。选择越权威的人物为自己做推荐越能提升你的形象，也可以选择特别熟悉的人作为你的推荐人，如果家中的亲戚是某些方面的权威，也可以是不错的推荐人。
推荐信写什么？
一般而言，最好每封推荐信各有其强调主题，以完全展现自己各方面的特质及专才，并且能与读书计划相互呼应者为最佳。比如，数学老师可以表现学生在数理、逻辑学习方面的优势和能力；班主任可以表现学生的人际关系、性格特征和领导能力等方面；课外活动老师的推荐信可以表现学生的爱心、持之以恒的性格、组织能力等方面；如果是亲戚做推荐，则可以表现学生从小到大的生活环境，以及性格培养成的背景。

个人简历指导(Curriculum Vitae)
用于描述个人的成长经历、教育背景以及所获成就等硬件条件的文书。
一份精美的简历可以给评审委员会一个概括性的了解，甚至先入为主留下好印象。
重点明确的简历可以突出申请者自身的闪光点，吸引招生人员的注意，达到意想不到的效果，为获得奖学金和入学资格赢得先机。
一般来说CV应包括：姓名、地址、电话号码及电子邮件地址；文化层度、教育背景；受过的奖励和奖学金；发表过的论文著作；语言和其他的技能程度；课外活动及个人爱好等。
CV的长度可以由其内容决定，实际经验告诉我们，CV一般写成大约A4纸两页之内就足够了。

个人陈述是申请美国学校非常重要的文书材料，如何凸显个性和优势，使学校决定录取你全靠这篇PS。
PS的结构
常见的PS格式有三种，第一种是自传式:就是把你从小到大的经历分重点主次描述一番，表明你的能力；第二种是叙事式:就是国外的PS常用的风格，以一件事情切题引出全文，谈谈自己的感受；第三种是专业式:文章的中心放在自己对专业的认识上，介绍自己的专业经历背景，体现自己的研究能力，对于大学申请前两种方式较为常用。
PS的主题
PS的主题当然是你的申请动机，如何更好的体现出你的这个主题呢？其实可以考虑从自己的某个特点出发如不服输追求挑战之类的精神，或者是上进精神，在逆境中奋起的精神等等来表现申请的主题，可以根据自己的特点和长处提炼出能更好的体现主题的内容。
PS的内容
PS是需要有足够的内容来支撑主题的，就如你要写一篇议论文来证明你是否有足够的优势进入你所申请的学校。你可以尝试在PS中回答相关问题：
1.你为什么对这个专业感兴趣？
2.什么事情使得你对这个专业的兴趣逐渐加深并且达到顶峰？
3.有没有一些具体的研究经历、研究项目吸引了你呢？
4.你为什么觉得这个专业在未来很重要？
5.你认为自己能给该研究领域带来什么样的价值？
